Best way to help students to submit work to correct module

Hello! We have been given one Canvas shell for our course. 160+ students access this shell and visit our separately named modules to submit assignments. For example, "Smith Unit 1", or "Jones Unit 1". We have an issue where students submit work to the incorrect place and then when we use SpeedGrader, the assignments look like they are missing. We'd love to have some suggestions for making this work better for all!

Based on your description, it sounds like you have different teachers and different sections of students in the same Canvas course shell.

If that is the case, do you know if the different teachers and different sections of students are using the sections feature in the Canvas course shell?

If you do not know, you can find out by:

1. going into the Canvas course shell
2. from the left-side course navigation area, click on "Settings" at the very bottom
3. from the top tabs, click on "Sections"

If you have more than one entry there, you (probably) have different Canvas sections for different sections of students.

If you only have one entry, you either will not be able to do what I provide below or:

• OPTION A: if your Canvas permissions allow you to, you can create sections (it might still be best to contact your Canvas admins/team)
• OPTION B: you can ask your Canvas admins/team if they can create a section for you

If you have more than one entry in "Settings > Sections", you can create the assignments like you normally do but instead of making them available to all of the students you can follow How do I assign an assignment to everyone, individual students, differentiated tags, or sections? to assign the assignments to specific sections.

Depending on the course design and structure, there might be other aspects to consider but this is something you might be able to do.
