This behavior has been resolved and deployed to the production environment as of 7/7/26.
Summary:
When students make replies that include a file attachment to a graded discussions in a course, if the Teacher moves onto the next submissions and then returns, only the attached file will populate in SpeedGrader and the discussion post itself will not be visible.
Expected behavior:
Graded discussion replies should show up as discussion replies in SpeedGrader even when it has an attached file
Workaround:
If it is only showing the attachment, refresh the browser and it should then display the post also
Steps to Reproduce:
Prerequisites: Have course with at least one teacher and a few students enrolled. Make sure Performance and Usability Upgrades for SpeedGrader is enabled.
- As the teacher create a graded discussion and publish it.
- As one of the students start a discussion reply with text, make sure to add a file using the Attach button.
- Submit the reply.
- As the teacher navigate to SpeedGrader.
- Move to the next student.
- Return back to the student that made the post with the attachment.
- Observe that only the attached file populates as if it was a file upload submission.
