Hello! I've followed directions for exporting my course, but when I try to download the export, it tells me that I don't have an application to open the file. I have a Mac. How should I work around this?
I found the answer to my own question. If anyone else has an issue, you have to manually change the .imscc file to a .zip file.
That doesn't seem super useful - just tried it :). The IMSCC file is a good option if you want to have a back up i ncase you need to import to canvas or moodle later. If you want to access files., this box should be checked in your settings if enabled in Canvas. You can uncheck it after you download a zip file that includes any files you uploaded, if you don't want to students to be able to do it (although they can download the files/ info they have access to). Student data is not included in either option. Ideally I guess you should have both!
Here's the relevant canvas help link.

I'm glad you were able to resolve this on your own!
For those who might be wondering, this Guide explains that you can change the extension of the IMSCC file to ZIP. Then, you would unzip the file on your computer which will give you a bunch of folders and files. You may have many folders with long alpha-numeric names. These typically contain the information for the assignments in your course. The other non-alpha-numeric folder names are easier to figure out how they match up to the actual content in your course.
Hope this helps!
Mine doesn't give me that option, unfortunately. So I will be starting from scratch with whatever LMS I switch to, unfortunately.
Hey @BradieCook2027 ,
Are you by chance using k12.instructure.com? If so, that version of FFT doesn't support offline course viewing. I recommend exporting your original course, then opening canvas.instructure.com, importing that course into there and then re-downloading it so you have both options! I know its an extra step, however it's worked for me and I'm hoping it will work for you.
Instead of having the 48-hour window, which Instructure describes as being heavily resource-intensive, wouldn't it have been easier to start a batch process of creating export files for every Free For Teacher site, storing them in the cloud, and sending a link to the administrator of each site? And BTW, why not do that now?
Hoping there will be another opportunity for us to access our courses to download or move?
I imported quizes from a paid Canvas account to my Free Canvas for Teachers account. When I try to edit the quiz in the imported course, it says the questions are in groups. It shows on the quiz page there are 25 questions, but when I edit and open to Questions it shows groups with NO questions in them. How do I get the…
Has anyone noticed that the feedback sidebar window has gone to larger spacing? Does anyone know if there is a way to change it back? Not a major deal just a bit annoying is all. Thanks.
Are you using MyTextMate's Canvas integration, or are you relying on Canvas's push notifications to deliver crucial information about due dates and events to students? Did you know push notifications have an open rate of 2%? Compare that to text messages, which have an open rate of 98%! MyTextMate allows students to…
