Quiz variants? Complete any one quiz (in module) to continue?

In a Quality Assurance / Metrology course, I need students to measure a parts… for each assignment there are four parts of the same kind, just with different errors, each of those has an associated quiz where they'll submit the results of their inspection. I only want students to measure one from each set. How do I require students to complete exactly one quiz from the set? Say they measure variant-B… they'll need to submit their numbers in the B-quiz, which will unlock the next module. They also should not be penalized for not submitting the other variations, A, C, D.

I'm hoping this can be set up to allow for auto grading of each variation of inspection. Any suggestions?

The most straightforward way would be to put quizzes A B C and D into a module and set a requirement "complete one of" and set each quiz requirement to "score at least"

Then make this module a pre-requisite for the next step. They have to get x score in one of the quizzes to complete that module to allow them to the next.

Won't that result in the student receiving a zero / missing grade on the other variations?

Do you think that setting the status of the unsubmitted quizzes to "Excused" would work for your needs?

What I figured out was that I could create an assignment group for each part, then add four quizzes to that group (one for each version). Then I can add a rule to drop the three lowest scores for assignments in that group… so, whichever version they submit will be the only not dropped.

Back in modules each part also gets its own module with its four quizzes. Add the requirement to "complete one" with all four quizzes added as "submit the assignment". Then the next part is locked until that condition is satisfied.

I think it'll work…
