Summary
Intelligent Insights includes a Regular and Substantive Interactions (RSI) dashboard for U.S. higher education institutions. The dashboard helps admins monitor online courses for RSI compliance related to federal financial aid and accreditation requirements. RSI Analytics identifies courses that may need attention, highlights missing engagement opportunities, and uses AI to help evaluate the quality and depth of instructor feedback and student interaction.
Change Benefit
- Federal & Accreditation Compliance: Ensure online and distance education courses meet strict US Department of Education requirements for RSI to securely maintain eligibility for Title IV federal financial aid and accreditation.
- Proactive Risk Mitigation: Quickly identify and triage courses at high risk of non-compliance before they trigger an external audit or jeopardize institutional funding.
- Quality of Engagement: Move beyond simply counting logins or clicks by promoting genuinely high-quality, substantive academic interactions between instructors and students.
Feature Workflow
To access the Regular and Substantive Interactions dashboard, click the Admin link [1] then click the Analytics Hub link [2]. In the Compliance box, click the Regular and Substantive Interactions link [3].
Alternatively, admins can also access the dashboard Admin Analytics page. In the Intelligent Insights drop-down menu [1], then click the Accessibility Analytics link [2].
Both approaches open the Regular and Substantive Interaction module. The first time an admin accesses the RSI dashboard, a brief onboarding process is required to define which online courses are included in the dashboard. This setup ensures the dashboard displays only relevant institutional data and is customized for each user.
Once the scope setup is submitted, data processing begins. Depending on the volume of selected courses, this initial processing may take up to 12 hours.
After the data is processed, the RSI dashboard displays.
The detailed methodology providing the foundation of this dashboard is available for review. To open the methodology, click the View Methodology button.
Note: The Filter button allows Admins to leverage the usual Intelligent Insights dashboard filters to further tailor the dashboard.
The main dashboard displays the list of all courses that are included in the scope [1] and indicated Risk Levels [2].
After opening a course, the Course Details view provides a comprehensive overview of its RSI status. This section begins with overall performance metrics [1] followed by a detailed Regularity breakdown [2].
Following the Regularity metrics, the current status for the five pillars of Substantiveness is displayed. Admins can expand each pillar to view the specific underlying metrics.
Note: The substantiveness of interactions is evaluated using AI. Additional details are available on the Methodology page.
