This behavior has been resolved and deployed to the production environment as of 5/20/26.
Summary:
Users are unable to unfavorite courses under the Past Enrollments list. If a course is favorited (starred) while active, the filled star icon carries over when the course concludes and moves to Past Enrollments. Although this does not affect Dashboard visibility (concluded courses do not appear on the Dashboard, even if favorited), the UI is completely unresponsive when the user attempts to click the star to unfavorite the course.
User Expected Behavior:
When a user navigates to the All Courses page and clicks the filled "Star" icon next to a favorited course in the Past Enrollments list, the star should unfill (unfavorite), allowing them to manage their list as explicitly stated in the Canvas official guides.
Steps to Reproduce:
Prerequisites:
A user with a course under Past Enrollments that was favorited (starred) while the course was active.
- Act as the user provided in the links above.
- Navigate to the "All Courses" page.
- Scroll down to the "Past Enrollments" section.
- Locate a concluded course that still has a filled "Star" icon.
- Attempt to click the Star icon to unfavorite the course.
- Observe that the UI is unresponsive, no action occurs, and the star remains filled.
