We are currently using the open-source version of Canvas LMS.
Recently, we have received reports from a small number of users who are unable to upload or attach files when using Canvas on mobile devices. The issue occurs in the following areas:
- Inbox (file attachments)
- Assignments (file uploads)
- Discussions (file attachments)
One of the users also helped us test this issue on the Canvas cloud-hosted environment, and the same problem still occurs, which suggests it may not be specific to our local deployment.
Below is the device and system information for reference:
- Device: Xiaomi 15T Pro
- OS: Android 16
- Browser: Google Chrome 147.0.7727.101
- Android System WebView: 146.0.7680.178
We have also noticed a potential pattern during our investigation:
most of the reported cases seem to come from certain Android device brands, while we have not observed similar issues on other devices so far.
However, due to the limited number of reports, we are not yet able to confirm whether this is device-specific or related to other factors (e.g., browser, WebView, or system-level restrictions).
We would like to ask:
- Has anyone encountered similar issues on mobile devices?
- Are there any known limitations or compatibility issues with newer Android or Chrome/WebView versions?
- Is there any recommended workaround or configuration we should check?
