We’re excited to announce that the Unified Cart Experience is now live in Canvas Catalog, delivering a more streamlined and flexible way to purchase and manage course and program enrollments.
What’s new?
Catalog now features a single, unified cart that makes purchasing simpler and more intuitive with configurable seat quantities and flexible purchasing options.
- Buyers now experience a smoother, modern e-commerce checkout process that supports both individual and bulk purchasing.
- Admins can configure institutional enrollment policies that allow buyers to purchase seats for others and assign participants at a later time.
- From the listing interface, users can now add listings, adjust quantities, and choose to checkout for themselves or reserve seats for later.
The result is a more cohesive checkout flow designed to better support how individuals, institutions, and organizations buy and manage learning: intuitively, efficiently, and at scale.
Why it matters
As Catalog programs grow, purchasing and enrollment workflows need to support a wider range of use cases, from individual learners to organizations managing group enrollments.
Previously, these scenarios were handled through separate and sometimes disconnected workflows. The new Unified Cart Experience brings these experiences together, making it easier to manage purchases, reduce friction during checkout, and support more flexible enrollment models.
Key benefits
- Unified purchasing
Buyers can now add courses or programs to a single cart and configure seat quantities directly from the listing. - Flexible enrollment support
Admins can now introduce policies that enable purchasers to order seats, then assign them to participants later. - Increased efficiency
Fewer steps and clearer processes eliminate fragmented workflows and manual steps tied to the previous bulk purchase experience. - Modern cart experience
Provide a faster, more intuitive checkout process that increases confidence and order completion
How it works
In the Catalog Settings menu, admins can configure institutional enrollment policies.
To allow purchasing seats for others, select the Yes option in the Allow purchasing seats for others in this Catalog and its subcatalogs drop-down menu.
From there, users can add listings to their cart, adjust quantities, and choose whether to complete checkout for themselves or reserve seats for later assignment.
Reserved seats can be claimed within a set timeframe or assigned via invitations, with all activity tracked in a centralized view for easy management.
