This behavior has been resolved and deployed to the production environment as of 4/08/26.
Summary:
When a course is in a closed term but the course is setup to use course dates, teachers have full access to create content in the course. This behavior is contradicting what the guide is saying “Course participation dates only affect student and observer roles; all other roles default to term access dates.”
Steps to Reproduce:
- Create a course in a closed term
- Update the course to use course participation dates with a start date in the past and end date in the future
- Masquerade as the teacher
- Notice you have full access even though the guide states course participation only affects students and observers and all other roles use term dates.
